’Balneotherapy as we know and practice it today goes back to the dawn of time and of our civilisation, in particular Roman. Bathing is the oldest therapy in the world. And in terms of our own history, we don’t dismiss the possibility that Spa’s name is derived directly from the Latin word sparsa, spargere: to gush out.’
’Since 1868, water is the sacred element of the Thermes of Spa; everywhere present in a preserved nature, it is charged by the force of the earth.’

GUEST INSTRUCTOR HEIDI MILLER:
Second-generation Classical Pilates teacher, certified by The Pilates Center of Boulder, Colorado and mentored directly by Pilates Elder Mary Bowen, a first-generation student of Joseph Pilates. She holds a B.S. in Exercise Sports Science and has been teaching movement for nearly 30 years. Her career began in personal training and spine rehabilitation, where she worked in a physical therapy clinic before devoting herself fully to Pilates. For more than 20 years she has taught Classical Pilates, drawing on her own recovery from seven spinal compression fractures to inspire and guide her students.
In 2005, Heidi launched Beyond the Movement: The Pilates Podcast, the first podcast devoted to the Pilates method. She has continued her studies with respected leaders including Pat Guyton, Mejo Wiggins, Darien Gold, and Kathi Ross-Nash, and she explores Archival Pilates to preserve Joseph Pilates’ original work.
Heidi is known for her warmth, clarity, and precise teaching. She specializes in working with postpartum clients, individuals with chronic back pain, and those living with connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Today, she teaches from her studio in the Colorado foothills, helping people of all body types find strength, healing, and freedom through movement.
IN THIS RETREAT:
Heidi will take you through Joseph Pilates original 34 mat exercises from his book Return to Life. Woven within the teachings of the matwork Heidi will be discussing Joe’s 6 principles along with Joe’s history and different ways Romana Kryzanowska and Ron Fletcher taught these exercises. We will use different apparatuses such as the magic circle, breathacizer, toe gizmo as well as more contemporary tools to help assist in these exercises.
We will also explore the foot and hand exercises on the foot corrector, 2x4 foot exercise bar, weighted rollup device, hands tensometer and utilize Joe’s eye chart! He didn’t leave anything out! In the evenings there will be fireside chats where Heidi will discuss more of the history of Joseph Pilates.
